We All Have Our Flaws

The ego lives through comparison. How you are seen by others is often how you see yourself.
When I criticise or condemn another it makes me feel bigger, more superior. These are egoic patterns that are often hard to break. Most of the time, the things that bother us about other people are actually reflections of your our internal issues, which is why they are so apparent to us. At times when you find yourself criticising others, ask, “what is it in me that needs to change?”
First we must become aware of these mental processes, and then we slowly drop them.

The Noble Purpose of Suffering

meditation-spiritual-suffering-path-quote

Suffering has a noble purpose, the evolution of consciousness and the burning up of ego.
The ego says, I should not have to suffer, and that makes you suffer so much more.

It is a distortion of the truth.

Your soul’s purpose is to transform.
As long as you avoid suffering, you slow to process of transformation, because the resistance creates more ego. When you accept suffering, however, there is an acceleration of that process which is brought about by the fact that you suffer cautiously. The fire of suffering becomes the light of consciousness.

Doubt is Good

Doubt is good.
It is an inherent part of anyones spiritual journey. I have had my fair share of doubt.
It comes every now and then, in different orders of magnitude.
Recently, I came across an article in regards to Yogi Bhajan, a key figure in bringing Kundalini to the West. I have a great affinity for his school and having found Kundalini a while back, It is a fundamental part of my daily well-being routine.
The article outlined several purported accusations against Bhajan. Immediately my mind went into a spirals.
I told myself.“This guy is a fraud, this entire thing is a fraud!”

The Source of Consciousness – Deepak vs Dawkins

The source of consciousness is a an extremely contested topic in the field of science. In this video Dawkins, an outspoken atheist, and Deepak Chopra, a popular spiritualist go head to head to discuss this issue.  This is an excerpt from the debate.

The conscious universe is something which is impossible to prove via the scientific method, thus it is a concept that scientists such as Dawkins find very difficult to swallow. The problem stems mostly from our definition of consciousness. Continue reading The Source of Consciousness – Deepak vs Dawkins

Martin Luther King Jr – Love, Peace, and Unity

martin luther king quote image i have decided to stick with love

There a few people, every now and then, that dream so big, that  love so deeply and work so hard that they can actually change the world. Martin Luther King Jr, an iconic leader in the African-American civil rights movement, was one of these people. A charismatic figure, he championed the ideals of loving your neighbour as yourself and loving your enemies as well. He refused any violence, instead insisting that you pray for your enemies and bless them instead of hating them.  Continue reading Martin Luther King Jr – Love, Peace, and Unity

Materialism in the 21st century

Materialism and Art

Ever considered yourself to be an idol worshipper? In the context of this discussion you might. Lets disambiguate the term “idol” first. Looking back at Abrahamic religions, we know that idol worship is VERY BAD. A whole bunch of people have been punished over and over for worshipping idols, the story of the Golden Calf is perhaps one of the most prominent. Most people associate idols as being an opposing force to whatever new religious thought was being proposed. Their pagan nature was seen as threatening. But there is more to it than that……

The Evolutionary Consciousness of Rumi

Evolutionary Consciousness of Rumi - Philosophy, Poetry

I have been a fan of Rumi’s work for quite some time now, I loved his deep passion for life and his expressions of love and peace. But I never really grasped the spiritual profundity of his work until recently, I came across a very interesting piece of literature, “A History of Muslim Philosophy” by M.M Sharif. It made me realise that his position in history goes far beyond that of a poet, and far beyond a theologan as well. He served as a beacon of light, to enlighten the path for those are lucky enough to come across his work. Continue reading The Evolutionary Consciousness of Rumi
